Summer, Time for Fun and Success – Part 15

A review of Napoleon Hills “Keys to Success: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement”.

Sound HealthThis is # 15.

15) “Maintain Sound Health” Your patience has paid off. You have made it to the medical part of this blog. Napoleon Hill referred to health as: “Your most valuable asset. You have nothing without your health. Your sound health begins in your mind – your health consciousness. Just as the right foods and exercise can prevent disease and increase your lifespan, so can the right healthy thoughts.” There is a whole science on positive thinking that has been born up for many years. I want to talk about physical health as that is what I do as a podiatrist, but I do not want to undervalue the power of thoughts on our health.

We will ALL have health issues at some point. We can lessen our risk by eating right, exercising, and maintaining a correct body weight. We can also greatly improve our health by getting enough sleep, wearing a seat belt in the car, limiting alcohol to a minimum and no smoking or tobacco products at all. Most Americans know and even believe that living this way will improve their health and prevent trauma and disease. Even though we believe these things, we do not do them. I will leave this to your conscious to consider, if you chose to violate what you know to be true, you will not have a successful out come.

There are other areas of health that in my day-to- day work, I believe that there are other matters that people should know but apparently do not. The shoes that you wear can play a major roll in your health. Not only can a poor shoe contribute in the development of hammer toes, bunions, corns and calluses but also in back and knee pain. Just the damage from the miss alignment of our bodies from wearing heels can be significant enough to require back or knee surgery. Wearing the right shoe for the right activity, that is well fitted and appropriate for your foot type, will go along way to not only your foot health but your health in general.

There are so many areas of “Maintenance Of Sound Health” that I cannot go into in this blog. Just work each day to try to maintain your health by making the best choices that you can, see your doctor and try to follow their advice.

I will follow with the next principle in a day or so. I hope that you enjoy this and benefit from it.
